One of the down sides of mass produced makeup brush cleansers is that they usually contain harsh chemical ingredients and alcohol. Makeup brushes aren't cheap, besides, short longevity of the brushes means more replacement which translates to extra waste. Any angle you look at it, they are equally unpleasant.
